An Excellent Office Design Is Vital To Your Success

The office design of a workplace is very important. This aspect of a work environment can make or break a company in how efficient the job gets completed. An office design needs to take into account a few key elements such as size of the space, company goals and employee input. These are all very important aspects in designing a perfect office space.

Studies have shown that a well designed office has improved employee morale and overall productivity. Bad office layouts are a thing of the past. Office spaces are all different. A lot of office space is too cramped, dark and downright depressing. An office manager needs to determine what would be the best solution to the office design issues.

Observations of the workplace need to be the stepping stone to any office redesign project. A manager needs to ask himself if there are any areas of the office that appear to be a problem and are some areas too small for the equipment in them.

Draw a picture of the traffic patterns within the office. Watch how the employees move within the organization. Visit conference rooms and employee stations every thirty minutes for a day to see where the work getting done and talk to the employees is. Find out where the employees are spending most of their time. If a space is always empty then it is not being utilized well.

Communication is key in a workplace. Speak to the workers and see if there are any issues you have not thought of. Sometimes this can bring unrealistic demands but remain flexible. Also do not get upset if not everyone is happy, no one design can please everyone. It may be worth reminding employees to remember some of the perks of the workplace such as a bigger lunch/break area.

Before the redesign occurs, make sure to decide about what your office goals would like to accomplish. Make a list and decide on four or five goals to address. Some popular ideas are if the supervisor has the corner office with windows, it may be beneficial to put the rank and file workers around the corners near the windows and put the supervisor towards the middle of the space. By placing the employees who spend more of their time at their desks near the windows, it will increase their morale and productivity.

Once the problem areas have been identified, a big question becomes apparent. What will it take to redesign the space into a functional and efficient work area? Is it a big overhaul or just moving furniture? What will the cost of a complete overhaul and construction be including how people would work in the space with construction going on? These are questions that need to be raised. If it becomes apparent that it is too expensive, then the next question becomes is it more feasible to seek another space?

Office design can be a tricky thing to accomplish. It is worth the time to plan and think it through. It is very important for the whole team to be involved in planning and deciding what to pursue. In the end, it will create a better work environment that promotes more productivity and increase revenue.
