Efficiency For Small Businesses

Mad Magazine’s Alfred E. Neuman once said that a neat office is a sign of a sick mind. Unless you’re as crazy as Alfred and follow his advice, small business owners should have a clean and organized office. By doing so, you make your company efficient and pleasing to the eyes of your staff and customers. This is also a great way of increasing productivity in the office.

A cluttered and untidy office is not only bad to look at but it can lead to disorder, limit the amount of work that gets done, and conjure up negative thoughts. That’s why everything should be spic-and-span. To help you in this regard, here are some quick tips:

First, get a really big box or container to store all your clutter and papers. Afterwards, carefully examine each object in the box. Should it be archived? Does it require your attention? Or should you throw it away? Being objective when doing this can minimize the amount of paper piling up on your office desk.

Use a filing system to lessen your paper load. Arrange the files in order either chronologically or alphabetically. The best way is the one you’re familiar with. A filing cabinet is a good thing to own since it will help organize your files. Select from a small, medium or large one based on how many papers you have. If your budget is limited, get a used filing cabinet instead. Hanging file folders are likewise helpful.

Utilize an inbox and outbox on your desk to keep incoming and outgoing work in. When something gets in your inbox, deal with it right away at once. Otherwise your inbox will be full of paper and you’ll be saddled with work! Ensure that your desk is free from papers other than the ones you’re working on. Before leaving, see to it that your desk is clean. It can be frustrating to return to your office on Monday morning only to find piles of paper that you left behind. Follow these simple measures to make work easier and enjoyable for you and your staff.
