How a Clean Reception Desk Can Lead to More Money
When clients enter your business, they first notice the reception desk. After all, they need to talk to the receptionist anyway. What if your reception desk is unkempt and untidy? Well, your clients may not want to do business with you.
This brings me back to something my old college buddy, Rick Thomas, used to say: “You can’t find success, you have to create it for yourself.” And it’s really true, a cluttered reception desk can be misleading to customers, yes, but they don’t know that your business is not also cluttered. You can’t expect people to know what you’re thinking, you have to make them know what you’re thinking. You do that by having a nice reception area.
Did I mention that Rick is now making nearly 7 figures a year? I’m not making this up folks. Rick actually did it, with a little help from a clean desk. I’m not surprised, either.
I went to visit him very early on in his career. He was working at a smaller firm at the time, and his pay wasn’t the greatest, but that never stopped him. I’ll never forget it. We were on our way out to get some lunch when Rick passed by his receptionist. She only had a few papers scattered around on her desk. Nothing too major. But Rick went into at least a two minute speech about how she is the “face” of the company, and she needs to keep her reception desk clean. Again, it wasn’t a big deal. But Rick saw it as a problem.
I know what you may be thinking. “This Rick guy sounds a little obsessive.” Well, I can tell you, he wasn’t. In fact, Rick may be the smartest man I’ve ever known. And right now, Rick is out there making loads of cash while you’re letting your receptionist ruin what could be valuable clientele.
So, what are you waiting for? Give it a chance. What can you lose? Maybe it’ll work for you, maybe not. Chances are, it will. It worked for Rick.
