What You Are Really After

Big business and small business:

Big business and small business are very different from each other. While they have many differences, we are only going to look at one of them. The difference we are going to look at is one not commonly looked at.

Small businesses run with the owner as a key part of the system. The small business owner attempts to work as much as he can in attempt to spend the least amount of money possible. In his mind, the more he works, the more money is leftover for him after the workday, which means he makes the most money. This is very true in the short term, so he only hires people to do things he cannot do.

In a big business, owners are not a key piece in the process. They think, ?the less I work, the more automatic my income is. This means that there is more time for me at the end of the workday. Thus, I make more time this way.? And, they act upon this mentality; they will only do whatever work they do not have the funds to hire out.

Both approaches are valid, reasonable approaches to business. They both have their merits, and there are types of people for both approaches. However, most people that should be big business owners get stuck running small businesses because they get what they seek.

For example, if you are a professional graphics designer, and you are happiest when you are making pictures, then you should do the small business approach.

If you are seeking money or free time, then you should take the route of big business; small business would make you miserable and discouraged.

The route of small business leads to lots of work. You are seeking more work, because you want to save money, remember? Well, your talents become more widely recognized and sought after, so, in the end, you end up with lots of work. You got what you wished for.

After many years of the big business approach, your business will be running by itself, and there is no work for you to do anymore, since your business takes care of it. Thus, you have lots of free time.

So, in the end, you will get what you are really after.

If you seek more work (because it puts more money in your pocket at the end of the day), you will end up, after many years, with lots of work to do.

If you are looking for free time, you will also find more than you could ever possibly fill.

Both approaches are excellent. However, be sure you are going after what you want. Many people who want to build a business to get free time are actually seeking to get more work, but they do not realize it. They think they are seeking time, but they are really seeking work. Someday, you will get what you are really after, not what you think you are after.
